Children in Care (CIC)

What Does CIC (“Children in Care”) Mean?
Children in Care are young people who are being looked after by the local council because it is the safest and best option for them at that time. This can happen for many different reasons, but the main goal is always to keep the child safe, healthy, and supported. Children in Care can live in different places depending on what is best for them:

-
Foster families
-
With relatives or family friends (kinship care)
-
Children’s homes
-
Supported accommodation for older children.
The aim is always to give them a stable, caring environment.
What Does Bilston C of E Primary School Offer to CIC?
The core purpose of Bilston C of E Primary School is to improve the outcomes of CIC Children and work closely with all relevant partners in health and social care to ensure children’s opportunities are the best they can be. The school will provide the following to support the children’s needs:

-
Kindness through a well thought out set of values to support all children.
-
Understanding through explicit training via the authorities Virtual Schools.
-
Stability through providing a place of belonging, that nurtures academic and wellbeing strategies.
-
Adults who listen through supportive work with the Pastoral Team.
-
A chance to feel safe and valued.
As a legal requirement a Designated Teacher is appointed to work closely with the CIC children and any outside agencies to ensure that the children have the best possible outcomes emotionally socially and academically. Mrs R Finch is currently the Designated Teacher at Bilston C of E Primary School who supports the completion of the Personal Education Plans (PEPs) every term. These outline the children’s academic targets and emotional, social and school achievements.
