Exploring Plant Lifecycles in Science
This term in Science, Year 2 have been learning about different plant lifecycles and observing how seeds grow and change over time. Today, the children used real plants and seeds to observe each stage first‑hand. Investigation for the Best Materials in D & T
In D & T, Year 2 explored a range of materials to discover which would be most suitable for making a kite. The children tested each material for strength, how easily it could tear, and whether it was waterproof. Through hands‑on investigation and thoughtful discussion, they were able to compare the properties of different materials and make informed conclusions about which ones would work best. Year 2 Carp Kites
Today, Year 2 learned about the tradition and design of carp kites before creating their own vibrant versions in class. After crafting and decorating their kites, the children headed outside to test them in the wind — an exciting part of the process! They finished the session by evaluating their designs, reflecting on what worked well and what they might improve next time. It was a wonderful blend of creativity, hands‑on learning, and outdoor fun.

Year 2 Clay Sculptures Inspired by Yayoi Kusama
Year 2 have been busy creating vibrant clay sculptures inspired by the work of artist Yayoi Kusama. During the decoration stage, some sculptures unfortunately broke, but the children showed wonderful perseverance and creativity. They remained positive, adapted their ideas, and were proud of their final pieces. This experience also helped them understand an important lesson: even for artists, things don’t always go to plan — and that’s all part of the creative journey.

Successful Year 2 Installation 🎨
Yesterday, our Year 2 children worked together to recreate The Obliteration Room , a famous installation by Yayoi Kusama, the artist they have been exploring in their art lessons this term. The children collaborated brilliantly, showing incredible maturity, creativity, and passion throughout the activity. We were truly impressed by their teamwork and enthusiasm — they surprised us all! 2DR Science – Autumn 1
In Science, we have been learning about plants. We have learnt about germination and the impact of conditions such as soil, water and sun has on the process of germination and the growing plant. As part of our Science we have conducted experiments to see the affect the conditions have on germination and growth.
